Shallots that last outside of the fridge!
When you buy shallots, do you put them straight into the fridge?
If you answered YES, did you know there is a better way to store these!
Put them in a large jar or vase and leave them near the kitchen window (sink area).
When needed for cooking, give them a “hair cut’ with kitchen scissors.
Continue to cut them straight into your dish as you cook!
The shallots can last for weeks in the jar (change the water regularly) as they grow new shoots ready for more cutting and use over the weeks ahead.
Sometimes, I have had them last up to 3+ weeks!
